Recently, GMC presented the next generation of its Canyon pickup truck. The least we can say is that it's promising and not just about. In fact, everything that was presented to us made our mouths water.
Without further ado, here's what's in store for us with the new version.
Only the best
The GMC Canyon is the cousin of the Chevrolet Colorado. What's interesting for 2023 is that GMC, which tends to offer a bit more luxury and refinement, offers only the best of Chevrolet. For example, while different power ratings are advertised with the model's 2.7-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine for the Colorado, we only get the top-performing version across the GMC Canyon lineup. This one offers 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, which allows towing of 7700 pounds. An eight-speed automatic transmission teams up with the powertrain.
As for the body style, the choice is simple; one cab (crew) and one box length (short).
The versions
The 2023 GMC Canyon lineup will include four models: Elevation, AT4, Denali and AT4X. With the first two, we'll be treated to more basic presentations, like the multimedia system, for example, where we'll find an 8-inch screen instead of an 11-inch one. Don't worry, everything necessary is present throughout the range, so we won't lack anything.
At the top of the hierarchy, we'll of course be treated to the ultimate in head-up display, a premium audio system, cameras offering 10 different shots (including under the vehicle for off-roading), as well as wireless access to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The same will be true for the Denali model, GMC's luxury benchmark.
AT4X
As for the AT4X variant, new for 2023, it will appeal to extreme touring enthusiasts. This cousin of the ZR2 model in the Chevrolet Colorado offers everything to make off-road adventures simple and reassuring. With 33-inch tires and a 36.9-degree front wheel angle, you get an idea of the model's capabilities.
Add to that a raised suspension, Multimatic shocks that constantly adjust to provide the best of both worlds, locking differentials, and a Baja driving mode that allows for high speed off-road driving. Really, this AT4X model promises to be a hit.
For the rest, we'll have to be patient, as the 2023 GMC Canyon is expected to hit dealerships next spring, moments after production is scheduled to begin around the turn of the new year.
