Five Tips to Tow Safely This Summer

With summer finally arriving, many truck and SUV owners will be latching on a boat or a trailer or a camper on their vehicles and heading out. That’s especially true this year where most of us are going to be exploring our own province for our summer vacation. So, if you do have to tow this summer, here are a few tips to make sure you do it safely.

  • Keep an eye on towing capacity limits

Your vehicle’s towing capacity is easy to determine. Make sure that you tow within your limits to avoid safety issues as well as prematurely damaging your vehicle.

  • Keep everything in the trailer secure

Whatever you want to tow, make sure that it is secure, so it doesn’t move around on the road. This includes everything inside your trailer.

  • Keep an eye on your tires

Make sure that your trailer’s tires are inflated properly as well as the tires on your vehicle.

  • Make sure your brakes are in good condition

Your brakes will have to work a lot harder when you are towing. Moreover, larger trailers may need to have trailer brakes. All of these components need to be in perfect condition.

  • Make sure you are visible

If whatever you are towing is blocking your taillights, make sure that your trailer has the appropriate lighting for other vehicles to see you.
