GMC trucks are known for their powertrain capabilities, technologies, and superior comfort and amenities. GMC basically created its own segment, the premium luxury pickup truck segment, which gives owners the performance and ruggedness they look in a pickup, while adding a premium feel and comfort you will only find in luxury vehicles.
Here, we take a look at the main differences between the GMC Canyon and the GMC Sierra.
The GMC Sierra 1500 is bigger than the Canyon
While the GMC Canyon is a midsize pickup, the Sierra falls in the full-size category. The Canyon is more adaptable to a mix of urban/highway driving and can manoeuvre more easily in tight spots. However, it still offers plenty of space for your gear and has been completely redesigned for 2023. It is available with the 5 ft bed along with a crew cab for maximum passenger space.
The GMC Sierra 1500 has more engine options
It is powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that outputs as much as 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. It has several driving modes including Normal, Off-Road, Terrain and Towing. A Baja mode, which calibrates the Canyon for high-speed off-roading, is added in the rugged and adventure-ready AT4X variant.
The Canyon can tow up to 7,700 lb, which is plenty of capacity if you’re looking to tow a boat or RV.
The Sierra is offered with a choice of powerful engines such as the six-cylinder 3.0 L turbodiesel engine that provides as much as 460 lb-ft of torque. There’s also a similar four-cylinder engine as the one in the Canyon, with 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. But the biggest difference is the pair of V8s, with the 5.3 litre ranking in at 355 horsepower and the 6.4-litre unit delivering 460 horsepower.
The GMC Sierra can tow up to 9,800 lb of anything you put behind it.
The GMC Canyon is more affordable than the GMC Sierra
The 2023 GMC Canyon is offered at a starting price of $34,022, while the GMC Sierra starts at a price of 48,797. Both trucks include a series of safety and towing technologies, along with the very capable GMC infotainment system that brings a world of opportunities to your fingertips.
