A few years ago, GMC introduced its first model bearing the letters AT4. It was with the Sierra pickup truck, and from then on, we knew that the idea would be popular.
And what is this idea? To offer additional tools to a given vehicle to allow it to venture a little further than usual off the beaten path.
Today, the name has made the rounds. But what is it really? Let's take a look at it.
The vans
With the pickup trucks in the family, the modifications that the AT4 models enjoy are impressive. Both the Canyon and Sierra feature oversized Wrangler Duratrac tires. Wrangler Territory tires are even available as an option on the Sierra. And we're not just talking about competent off-road tires; they're mounted on unique rims that add to the models' beauty and character.
Underneath the body, the Canyon enjoys an automatic locking rear differential, a two-speed transfer case, a suspension tuned for off-roading, and front hooks for lashing and towing loads. Interestingly, the Canyon AT4 is available with either cloth or leather seats, depending on your taste. The seats are also exclusive to this model. Under the hood, the 3.6-liter V6 or the 2.8-liter 4-cylinder diesel are available.
In the case of the Sierra model, the big difference is the two-inch rise in the suspension, which has a direct effect on the look of the model. A two-speed transfer case, off-road suspension with Rancho monotube shocks, underbody skid plates, and Traction Select terrain management system are also included, as are the front wheel hooks. The 6.2-liter V8 or the 3-liter diesel engine are available.
Really, very interesting capabilities for these two models.
The SUVs
With a massive model like the Yukon, they did something striking and interesting, which is to redesign the front fascia to increase the angle of attack, now at 32 degrees. Improved capabilities and a great look!
Otherwise, the model benefits from off-road tires, black chrome trim and the distinctive AT4 design. Both V8s are offered with this version (5.3 and 6.2 liters).
The Terrain model features skid plates, exclusive off-road tires and the Traction Select system. The engine chosen is the 1.5-liter turbo 4-cylinder. The Acadia also has unique wheels and tires for off-road driving, as well as the Traction Select system. The engine is a 3.6-liter V6.
In short, the modifications are adapted to the needs you have depending on the type of vehicle you are looking for. The AT4 models in the lineup are very popular, because they offer that little bit more that you would expect from a utility vehicle. If you haven't already done so, you'll want to check them out.
