When should you consider installing your summer tires?

Warmer temperatures are upon us, and we can definitely feel and smell the imminent arrival of spring. For drivers, this means that it is now time to consider installing summer tires on your vehicle. Many drivers wonder if they should install winter tires in March, and if not how long should they wait before replacing their winter tires with summer tires?

The answer to that question lies in the outside temperature. Your summer tires are only effective when the outside temperature is above 7°C. When it is colder than that, your tires will harden which will impact breaking distances as well as overall stability. Not to mention that cold temperatures accelerate wear and tear on your summer tires.

March mornings are still cold as are evenings. Most areas in Canada have an average March temperature of well under 7°. And then there is the question of that last snowstorm which comes around late March or in April one out of three years according to the Weather Network.

For all of these reasons, we recommend that you wait until at least the first or second week of April for installing summer tires on your vehicle.
